〜たが最後／〜たら最後

States that once the action happens, an inevitable and usually bad consequence follows and cannot be avoided. The second clause is typically a negative outcome, a strong prediction, or an expression of obligation, never a request or invitation. 〜たら最後 is slightly more colloquial than 〜たが最後, which sounds more emphatic and written.

• このゲームは始めたが最後、やめられなくなる。

  このゲームははじめたがさいご、やめられなくなる。

  Once you start this game, you won't be able to stop.

• 彼にお金を貸したら最後、二度と返ってこないよ。

  かれにおかねをかしたらさいご、にどとかえってこないよ。

  Once you lend him money, you'll never see it again.

• 秘密を一度漏らしたが最後、信用は取り戻せない。

  ひみつをいちどもらしたがさいご、しんようはとりもどせない。

  Once you leak a secret, you can never regain trust.
