〜ようによっては

Built from the 〜よう 'way/manner' noun plus によって, it says that the result or evaluation changes according to the manner of doing something. It typically introduces a second, often unexpected, viewpoint: 考えようによっては, 見ようによっては, 使いようによっては. The clause that follows usually contains 〜も, 〜こともある or a contrasting judgement.

• この失敗も、考えようによってはいい経験だ。

  このしっぱいも、かんがえようによってはいいけいけんだ。

  Depending on how you look at it, this failure is a good experience too.

• 薬は使いようによっては毒にもなる。

  くすりはつかいようによってはどくにもなる。

  Depending on how it's used, medicine can also be poison.

  Depending on how you hear it, his remark could be taken as sarcasm.
