〜ようが〜まいが

States that the outcome is the same regardless of whether the action happens; the same verb is repeated in the volitional and まい forms. 〜ようと〜まいと is an equivalent variant, and the whole phrase is often followed by 関係ない, 自由だ, 変わらない. The tone is emphatic and somewhat formal or literary, frequently used to brush aside another person's choice or opinion.

• 君が行こうが行くまいが、私は行く。

  きみがいこうがいくまいが、わたしはいく。

  Whether you go or not, I'm going.

• 雨が降ろうが降るまいが、試合は予定通り行われる。

  あめがふろうがふるまいが、しあいはよていどおりおこなわれる。

  Rain or no rain, the match will be held as scheduled.

• 他人が信じようと信じまいと、事実は変わらない。

  たにんがしんじようとしんじまいと、じじつはかわらない。

  Whether others believe it or not, the facts don't change.
