〜てしかるべきだ

States that something is only natural or proper and therefore should be the case, often with an implicit criticism that it currently is not. Compared with 〜べきだ, it sounds more formal and stresses social appropriateness rather than the speaker's personal duty-based judgment. It belongs to written and formal spoken Japanese, such as editorials, debates and business settings.

• 働いた分の給料は支払われてしかるべきだ。
