〜ゆえの

A literary, bookish way of showing cause that modifies a following noun; the predicative form is 〜ゆえに／〜ゆえだ. With nouns, が may be inserted (若さゆえの／若さがゆえの) and な is also seen (病気なゆえに). It appears in essays, speeches, legal and formal writing, and sounds noticeably stiff in casual conversation, where から／ので are natural. Remember that ゆえの must be followed by a noun, while ゆえに links to a clause.

• それは若さゆえの過ちだった。

  それはわかさゆえのあやまちだった。

  That was a mistake born of youth.

• 貧しさゆえの犯罪を減らすには、まず雇用の確保が必要だ。

  まずしさゆえのはんざいをへらすには、まずこようのかくほがひつようだ。

  To reduce crime caused by poverty, securing employment must come first.

• 優秀であるがゆえの孤独に、彼は長く苦しんでいた。

  ゆうしゅうであるがゆえのこどくに、かれはながくくるしんでいた。

  He long suffered from the loneliness that came of being brilliant.
