〜と（並列・一緒に）

と joins nouns in a complete, exhaustive list ("A and B") and also marks the person you do something with, often together with 一緒に. It cannot join verbs or adjectives — only nouns. Unlike や, と implies the list is complete: パンと牛乳を買った means bread and milk, nothing else.

• 机の上に本とペンがあります。

  つくえのうえにほんとペンがあります。

  There are a book and a pen on the desk.

• 友だちと映画を見ました。

  ともだちとえいがをみました。

  I watched a movie with a friend.

• 日曜日は家族と一緒に買い物に行きます。

  にちようびはかぞくといっしょにかいものにいきます。

  On Sundays I go shopping together with my family.
