数え方（〜つ・〜人・〜枚・〜本）

Japanese counts with a number plus a counter. 〜つ (ひとつ, ふたつ, みっつ…ここのつ, then 十) is the general counter for objects up to ten; 〜人 counts people (ひとり, ふたり, then さんにん…); 〜枚 counts thin flat things (paper, shirts, plates, tickets); 〜本 counts long thin things (bottles, pens, umbrellas) with sound changes いっぽん・さんぼん・ろっぽん・はっぽん. The counter phrase usually comes after the noun and particle, right before the verb: ビールを二本ください.

• りんごを三つください。

  りんごをみっつください。

  Three apples, please.

• 교室に学生が五人います。

  きょうしつにがくせいがごにんいます。

  There are five students in the classroom.

• コピーを十枚して、ペンを二本買ってきてください。

  こぴーをじゅうまいして、ぺんをにほんかってきてください。

  Please make ten copies and buy two pens.
