〜そして／〜それから／〜でも（接続詞）

These conjunctions join two sentences. そして adds a second fact or result ("and, and so"); それから adds another action in sequence or another item ("after that, and also"), so it is preferred when order in time matters; でも contrasts with what was just said ("but, however") and comes at the head of the second sentence. でも is conversational; in writing しかし is used instead. Do not use でも inside a single clause — for that use 〜が or 〜けど.

• きのうは雨でした。でも、公園へ行きました。

  きのうはあめでした。でも、こうえんへいきました。

  It rained yesterday. But I went to the park anyway.

• 朝ご飯を食べました。それから、学校へ行きました。

  あさごはんをたべました。それから、がっこうへいきました。

  I ate breakfast. After that, I went to school.

• この店は安いです。そして、料理もおいしいです。でも、いつも込んでいます。

  このみせはやすいです。そして、りょうりもおいしいです。でも、いつもこんでいます。

  This restaurant is cheap, and the food is tasty too. But it's always crowded.
