〜たら（条件）

The most versatile conditional: it covers both 'if' and 'after/when', viewing B as happening once A is completed. Unlike 〜ば and 〜と, the main clause can freely contain requests, invitations, permission or the speaker's intention. It is also used for surprising discoveries in the past (窓を開けたら、雪が降っていた) and is very common in everyday speech.

• 駅に着いたら、電話してください。

  えきについたら、でんわしてください。

  Please call me when you get to the station.

• 明日雨だったら、試合は中止です。

  あしたあめだったら、しあいはちゅうしです。

  If it rains tomorrow, the match will be cancelled.

• 家に帰ったら、猫が私のパンを食べていた。

  いえにかえったら、ねこがわたしのパンをたべていた。

  When I got home, the cat was eating my bread.
