〜と（条件）

Expresses an automatic, inevitable result: whenever A happens, B always follows. Typical for natural laws, machine operation, road directions and habits. The main clause cannot be a request, invitation, permission or the speaker's intention — 〜と is wrong in 春になると、花見をしましょう; use 〜たら there. With a past main clause it can describe a discovery (部屋に入ると、誰もいなかった).

• 春になると、桜が咲きます。

  はるになると、さくらがさきます。

  When spring comes, the cherry blossoms bloom.

• このボタンを押すと、切符が出ます。

  このボタンをおすと、きっぷがでます。

  If you press this button, a ticket comes out.

• まっすぐ行くと、右に銀行があります。

  まっすぐいくと、みぎにぎんこうがあります。

  If you go straight, there's a bank on your right.
